Launched on the 3rd of July, the LINK satellite was designed to rendezvous with the observatory and boost it to a higher orbit, counteracting atmospheric drag. Despite the diligent efforts of the team at Katalyst Space Technologies to overcome early technical malfunctions—including issues with the spacecraft’s reaction wheels—the satellite could not be stabilised sufficiently for the docking procedure.

NASA has confirmed that while the primary goal of extending the observatory’s mission will not be met, the LINK satellite will still conduct proximity operations. This exercise remains vital for demonstrating future space exploration capabilities.
