Just a heads up…There’s some a hoax going around the place claiming the moon, Jupiter, and Venus will form a “smiley face” on May 16th. Unfortunately it won’t happen – for a start the Moon will be about 40% illuminated being the day after first quarter and rises about 00:36 local time in the constellation of Aquarius.
Venus will set in the early evening and Jupiter and Saturn are sitting much higher in the sky between Sagittarius and Capricorn.
The photo shown in the articles comes from years ago on December 1st 2008 but it always nice to go out and check the sky any way
I’m aware of this ignorant hoax but have not actually received one yet. Maybe that’s because I’m tired of Facebook.
It’s good that astronomers are promptly debunking it.
