It is hard to believe that it is now almost 50 years since Apollo 11 landed on the lunar surface and Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin became the first humans to walk on an extraterrestrial location. Their footprints remain there to this day.
What is even more interesting is that up to 25% of Americans do not believe it actually happened. A Ditmar poll found 26% of 18-26 yr old college educated Americans were doubtful & 10% rated it highly unlikely that Americans landed on the moon.
Over the next few blog posts, we will look at some of these conspiracy theories.
Some of the people who don’t believe anyone landed on the moon believe a film producer Stanley Kubrick who directed 2001: A Space Odyssey was hired to make a film of a fake moon.
The first conspiracy we will look at is the Flag Conspiracy.
This is based upon the pictures of Apollo astronauts erecting a US flag on the Moon show the flag bending and rippling. How can that be? There is no breeze on the moon. There is no air in the atmosphere and therefore no wind to help the flag flutter. The flag had a rod inserted along the top edge to make it stand out, but you can clearly see creases in the flag indicating a billowing movement.
Nasa claims that Buzz Aldrin was twisting the flagpole to get it to stand up in the moon soil, which caused the flag to move.

There are other plausible explanations such as test-firing thrusters near the flag caused it to wave, or that there was a spring inside the deployment boom which would continue to shake the flag in an airless vacuum, making it “appear” to be waving.
